SoundBoard for Linux (1.4.2) - beta
====================================

This is a native Linux build - not the Windows app running under Wine. It's a
from-scratch port (WPF -> Avalonia, WASAPI -> PortAudio/PipeWire, VB-CABLE ->
a PipeWire virtual sink), so a few things work a little differently than on
Windows. See "Known differences" below before you report something as a bug.

Requirements
------------
- A 64-bit Linux desktop with PipeWire (or PulseAudio) - this is the default
on current Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch/CachyOS, and most other modern distros.
- No other runtime needed - this build is self-contained.
- For sounds to trigger while another app (a game, Discord) has focus, your
desktop needs to support the XDG Desktop Portal's GlobalShortcuts
interface. Confirmed working on KDE Plasma 6+ and GNOME 45+. Sounds always
trigger from hotkeys while SoundBoard itself is focused, regardless.

Install
-------
    ./install.sh

Installs to your user account only (no sudo, no root) and adds SoundBoard to
your application menu. Run ./uninstall.sh to remove it again.

Or just run ./SoundBoard directly without installing anything.

Getting started
----------------
On first launch, SoundBoard creates a "SoundBoard Cable" PipeWire sink and a
paired "SoundBoard Mic" source - this is the Linux equivalent of VB-CABLE, no
driver install required. In Discord (or any app), set the input/microphone
device to "SoundBoard_Mic", and in SoundBoard set the Discord Output device
to "SoundBoard_Cable". The app's status bar tells you when this is set up
correctly.

Known differences from the Windows build
------------------------------------------
- Global hotkeys go through your desktop's permission portal instead of a
Windows-style low-level keyboard hook. The first time you bind one, your
desktop may show its own one-time "allow SoundBoard to use shortcuts?"
prompt - that's your compositor, not SoundBoard, and only you can grant it.
Your desktop may also let you rebind the actual key elsewhere in its own
  shortcut settings.
- The self-updater isn't included in this build - check
  https://soundboard.antinon.se for new versions instead.
- Drag-and-drop isn't implemented yet - use "+ Add Sound" to import files
(tile reordering isn't implemented either; new sounds are added in order).

Everything else - playback, profiles, categories, the clip editor, hotkey
manager, mic mixing, the safety limiter - works the same as the Windows
build.
